Vinyasa is characterized by a flowing sequence of poses, and unification of the breath with movement. There is no one set formula for a vinyasa class, which means they can be extremely varied from class to class and from teacher to teacher. However, they generally include sun salutations and the “vinyasa” or “flow” sequence (plank – chaturanga – cobra / upward facing dog – downward facing dog). Strong emphasis is placed on synchronizing the breath with each movement throughout the class, allowing students to find themselves in a meditative state through movement.
