Yin

Yin

Yin is the Taoist concept of the feminine, passive, cooling energy. Where in many practices we focus more on the yang elements (masculine, dynamic and warming), yin yoga involves long-held, passive floor poses that mainly work the lower part of the body – the hips, pelvis, inner thighs, lower spine. The poses are held for up to five minutes, sometimes longer. Props such as blocks, straps, blankets and bolsters are used to provide support to the body in the postures so that students can fully relax their muscles and build flexibility in the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons and deep layers of fascia. Yin yoga is not a complete practice in itself, but is used as a complementary practice alongside other more active practices
